Singer Ruhan Kapoor may have sung in hundreds of concerts, his father the legendary Mahendra Kapoor and the decades after the passing away of the legend, there is one concert which will always be very close to his heart.
The concert was at Amritsar, the birthplace of Mahendra Kapoor and the invitation was from veteran musician Karlochan Tochi alongside Punjab Screen Club by Diljit Singh.
“This opportunity to celebrate Dad’s life in his birthplace over kulcha chola and pray at the Golden Temple and visit other temples at Amritsar took me back in time.”
Ruhaan admits that this homecoming where amazing singers from Punjab, including doctors, advocates, businessmen and technicians rendered one Mahendra Kapoor song after another with love and reverence had him and his wife Neerja in tears.
“Each of them sang so well. I was so touched when I sang the holy Deh Shiva Var Mohe and received a standing ovation from the beautiful audience. It was not easy to sing on stage with tears in my eyes.”
Popular IPS officer and AAP MLA of Amritsar Vijay Pratap Singh attended the show as well. “What touched me most was the fact that he stayed for the entire concert and after. His love of the people of Amritsar, for my father 14 years after he left for his heavenly abode is an experience I will relive for a lifetime, confesses Ruhan Kapoor.
“Music takes me to places I dream of and the same holds for the audiences who cherish my father, who lives in the beats of their hearts. Where my words fail, music always speaks,” echoes Ruhan.
